The Bath of the Future Showcased in Milan
Salone del Bagno (bath) is held in conjunction with Euro Cucina every two years in Milan, Italy. It is one of the most important and forward-looking trade fairs in the global kitchen and bath industry because products and concepts introduced in Milan are almost certain to appear on American shores in the coming years. Here are several significant trends from this year’s Salone del Bagno.
The lines between a living room and a primary bathroom are eroding. Baths in Milan feature fireplaces, comfortable chairs, chandeliers, and other comforts that convert the purpose of the bath from a functional space to a room that homeowners use to relax, improve their health, reduce stress, and better enjoy their lives.
There were pops of bold color everywhere, not only in the bath but also in the kitchen. We found lemon, orange, and tangerine cabinetry and appliances with matte black and other shiny finishes. Freestanding basins in caramel and brown sugar tones offered a wow. Color was used to create different moods. Exhibits featured delicate tones and bold statements above the sink and water closet areas.
Freestanding basins were present in almost every bath display. Homeowners will soon have the opportunity to select basins in virtually every color of the rainbow and multiple different shapes and sizes. Basins that turned heads were made from marble and fluted wood, among many other materials.
Freestanding sculptural tubs were the baths of choice in Milan. Tubs featured higher rims to provide better back support when soaking. High-tech shower systems allow homeowners to pre-set water temperature for different users and can be ordered with multiple therapies, including color, light, sound, steam, and aroma. Other shower trends were curbless entrances made possible using linear drains.
Lavatory faucets continue to evolve in design that converts a practical product that produces hot and cold water into a sculptural wonder.
Integrated lighting was also commonplace in all shapes, sizes, and color schemes in bathroom mirrors. Many included Bluetooth connectivity and lighting options that simulate an office environment for morning use and light levels found in restaurants, clubs, and bars to help homeowners prepare for an evening out.
