The Bath of Your Dreams
The primary bath for homeowners in the Northeast Ohio area is constantly evolving. Primary baths are transforming from a place of basic functionality to a space that offers a sanctuary and daily spa-like experiences, according to a recent trends survey produced by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. Many homeowners, especially those looking to age in place, cherish primary baths that provide a few minutes a day all to themselves, devoid of texts, tweets, and even the patter of little feet, to relax, recharge, and wash away the stresses of the day.
Open floor plan baths are becoming increasingly popular among homeowners who are attracted to opening their primary baths to a connecting bedroom, sitting room, dressing area, or other spaces in the home. Taking down bathroom walls increases the size of the bath and creates a modern, open feel. In primary baths with limited space, we often recommend installing skylights and windows above a tub to enhance the sense of space. A sculptural freestanding bath can serve as a focal point of an open floor plan bath. However, many homeowners rarely use a tub. In those cases, removing the tub altogether to create space for a large shower with multiple showerheads and therapy options that can accommodate two bathers simultaneously is a desirable option.
Using linear or channel drains is another hot and valued trend for primary baths. Linear drains are often a key component of curbless entrances where the bathroom and shower floor are flush and seamless. There is no sill or curb to step over. Another advantage of linear drains is that they can be placed anywhere in the shower area, including along a shower wall, at the entrance, or in the center of the space. Because the floor only has to be sloped toward the linear drain’s location, linear drains can eliminate the need for a shower enclosure altogether.
Homeowners are gravitating to primary baths that deliver spa-like experiences. Technology is a key component of the in-home sanctuary. Technology is making it easier to use, enjoy, and customize your primary bath, ranging from heated floors to steam, color, aroma, and massage therapy in the shower to smart faucets and mirrors.
Similar to kitchens, a well-designed bath is a clutter-free bath. Linen storage cabinets, charging stations in vanity drawers, and drawer dividers to place makeup, grooming aids, linens, and other bathroom necessities help to maintain a clean look. Medicine cabinets provide additional storage for prescriptions, grooming products, and smaller items. Open shelves are another popular storage solution for towels, toiletries, and decorative items.
Blues and greens are expected to be a dominant bathroom color scheme in the coming years. Combined with white, blues and greens can provide a calming aura to the primary bath.
