The Hottest Bath Trends for 2023

Cersaie International Exhibition is a major European bath and ceramic tile trade show highlighting cutting-edge products and trends. The star of the show this year was color. The exhibit hall featured lots and lots of color, especially fixtures and bath furniture with saturated shades and glossy finishes. Pastel and matte tones also were present throughout Cersaie. Black was another color featured in shower enclosures with smoked black matte and glossy finishes. Several manufacturers highlighted black tones with contrasting colors that included beige, pink, and salmon.

Bath furniture continues to erase the boundaries typically associated with found in the bathroom. Featured pieces included cupboards and sideboards that could be used in other rooms in the home that enable homeowners to create a consistency of image, textures, and colors throughout the home.

Ceramic tiles with clean-cut, large, and geometric shapes were omnipresent. Faucet handles and other surfaces featured tactile surfaces, providing texture and depth to the bath. A green wave also swept through Cersaie, with manufacturers producing products requiring less raw materials and waste.

Virtually every aspect of the primary bathroom – from layout to color scheme to the usage of technology – is evolving.

In addition to Cersaie, the NKBA's newly-released 2023 Design Trends report confirmed the bath is transforming from a place of basic functionality to a space that offers sanctuary, a spa-like retreat. Key design takeaways include:

  • Color sets the mood, with blues and greens expecting to be dominant over the next few years,

  • Bathroom projects are getting larger and more involved,

  • Spa-like bathrooms are growing in popularity,

  • Larger, more luxurious showers will be in vogue, and

  • Greater usage of technology will enhance the spa-like feel.
